UNICORNS, FLOWERS AND STARS OH MY!

Today begins a new challenge at Crafting When We Can.  Our challenge this fortnight is "Based on a Film".  We are being sponsored by Oddball Art.

This adorable little girl is called "Geeky Big Eye Pastel Goth Unicorn Girl w/Glasses N Unicorn Kitten Happy".   What a mouthful right!  She's a cutie though.  She comes with happy and sad faces too.  I thought she was just adorable as I do love a unicorn.

As I was starting my card I couldn't think of a movie to use.  For some reason I couldn't get any inspiration.  She was colored for two weeks before my daughter gave me the inspiration I needed.  Her favorite movie of all time is Stardust.

I could not remember a unicorn though.  She told me in the beginning, when the star is shot through the air, the unicorn carries her safely to earth.

I looked at the pictures for the movie and found so many gorgeous sky scenes.  I was going to print one and decided to just make one instead.  I started with my Color Bursts.  I used Lemon Yellow, Alizarin Crimson and Ultramarine Blue.  The photo I took of how little powder was needed came out a bit blurry so I'm going to start with the burst.

While it was drying, I used my stitched rectangle die on the papers to go behind my image.

There was a very important flower in the movie.  It's called a snowdrop flower.  The bearer of this flower is protected from all dark magic and it also brings him good luck.  I looked up the flower and had none like it.  So I decided to use what I have.  I started by making some foliage die cuts and distressed them up a bit.

Next I pulled out some white flowers and distressed them.

I made a bow and put them all together.

This is the what I came up with.

I wasn't real happy with there not being some more red to tie into the background so I distressed a bit with Fired Brick Distress Ink.

I added the girl and her kitten then I couldn't figure out what she was going to say.  My lovely daughter came up with that also.  She said that when you are someone's unicorn you befriend, protect, inspire, comfort and be there when needed.  I thought that was just so sweet.  Not sure if it came from the movie or not but I like it.

After I was finished (or thought I was) I felt the upper right corner was just not right.  It was too empty and the card didn't balance.  I wanted to add something and thought stars would be the best addition.

So here again is the finished card.  I'm glad you stopped by and hope that I will see you in the challenge at CWWC!

Thanks for your visit and have a blessed day!
